KL
to Penang - the long way (Part 3) |
|
Thursday, Tanjung Jara, 5:30pm We are about to make a move when a small hill at the end of the beach road, which was surrounded by secondary jungle, catches our attention. We drive the car over and up the narrow winding road to find an abandoned lighthouse at the end .... with the gates open! (cue creepy horror movie music .... ).
(Above) Shall we? Shall we not? Since the temptation was too great to bear, we locked the car and climbed up the stairs. Which was a good move, since the views from the top were fantastic to say the least. The pictures that follow don't do it justice:
(Above) Clear sea
(Above) That must be a bridge heading to Kuala Terengganu. Whatever you do, don't flip over the rails....
(Above) The view from the top of the lighthouse. Okay, the car is still there. We spend some time enjoying the breeze and taking photos, although Mr Beetlestone looked distinctly queasy and was rather eager to go down. Relunctantly I followed but not before taking a self potrait (which was rather risky since the camera was standing on a platform and a gust of wind could have sent it crashing down to earth). One last look around and .... no creepies sighted .... so we head back to the car and drive away.
(Above) Cool photo effect huh? No Photoshop needed here, it's just the slow shutter speed of my camera phone causing the photo to blur. We drive on towards Kuala Terengganu, still enjoying the views of the sea on our right. There's something about a town by the sea which makes things feel light and breezy. Suddenly your deadline for Project X for next Monday (or whatever) doesn't seem very important anymore.
Right, it was getting dark and it was time to seek shelter. We drive around town looking for a place to crash and come across the Grand Continental.
(Above) Lobby looks decent - okay, we'll take it. Accommodation safely secured for the night, we head out for dinner. Tonight's food would be Chinese. I had been to Kuala Terengganu before and as I recall, there was a vibrant Chinatown somewhere nearby. Since the town was quite small, we eventually located it and randomly chose a restaurant (one that wasn't too empty and wasn't too full). Famished, we ordered the special - steam fish.
(Above) Fish, prawns and beer - lovely combination. Thanks for reading, and stay tuned for Part 4! |
