In Togo today there is no System of Governance . The Gnassingbe government has spent 40 years in power in which time it has entrenched itself and its allies into every aspect of Togo Life and control all Togolese institutions. The Gnassingbe Regime has been unnaccountable for over 40 years and have killed, Tortured , kidnapped , raped aswell as become involved in Criminal activities such as Drug Trafficking, Illigal weapons smuggling all in the aim of maintaining power and enriching themselves.
In its part the Gilchrist Olympio clan have promised for decades to help togo but have delivered nothing. Their aim has always to achieve power and enrich themselves and seek personal vendetta's .
"What is the opposition doing?" complained Father Thomas at Aneho Roman Catholic cathedral. June 2005 "Why aren't they helping the wounded and the refugees? Why aren't they helping us?"
The Recent elections of Mid 2005 had their problems.
The Gnassingbe Government has always acted above the law and recent UN documents regarding the elections in 2005 have illustrated this.
1."Lorry loads of young men from Kara arrived in town the day the results were announced. They were armed with machetes, clubs and arrows. They burned houses while the military looked on," one resident in Sokode recounted. At statement echoed in Lome , Atakpame, Aneho, Kpalime aswell as other towns .
2.The analysis by an EU diplomat looked at voter lists in Togo and found that there appeared to be a gap between the number of registered voters and an estimate of the voting-age population, with more than 34 percent of 900,000 voters presumed to be false, according to a copy of the report obtained by AFP. The gap was particularly important in areas reportedly favorable to the ruling party, the Rally for the Togolese People, with voter participation between 80 to 99 percent.
In contrast, in Lome, an area favorable to the opposition, voter participation was about 35 percent, as 390,000 registered voters did not or could not vote, the report said.
3.Voting irregularities were also raised Friday by an ECOWAS poll observer, Martin Assogba, who said the group's final review of the election radically downplayed the scale of ballot-fraud. "I saw kids between 10 and 15 years old queuing up to vote with voters' cards showing them as 25 or 35.
The Opposition Parties Under the umbrella of Gilchrist Olympio were seen by many Togolese as a no-choice .
Below are a selection of pictures taken in Togo by independent Journalists and international news agencies. The images were taken during and in the days following the Fraudulent elections. The images represent the result of the Gnassingbe family busing in militia and using the military to harass and abuse civilians. Whilst the Opposition under the umbrela of Gilchrist Olympio also did their part in inciting the civilians to march onto the streets only to be beaten, abused, raped and murdered. The images illustrate the intent of the Olympio and Gnassingbe clans in their will to use the Togolese people as pawns whilst they themselves are far away from the danger zone.
