SAGSA Minutes for February 16, 2006

12:43   Meeting called to order

12:43   Budget revised by Bri, $50 appeared missing but a mistake was made in subtracting, but the amount has been reconciled.

12:45   Discussion about sociology anthropology students not attending the new faculty candidate’s presentation was brought up by Bri. Some SAGSA members complained about the scheduled time conflicting with their schedules.

12:47   Colloquium on attending conferences is ready, update by organizing members was made and most details have been taken care of.

12:49   A motion was passed to replace the printing process with a password instead of using a lock to store the cartridge. All present favored the motion.

122:50 Website still needs to be updated, we will make further discussions with Ricky and Connie on a future SAGSA meeting.

12:51   Painting for mural in the grad room is now in progress, Emily will find out where a plaque can be made to commemorate the piece.

12:53   Thank you notes: Anne will buy and maintain the cards and send them to guests and contributors as needed.

12:54   Jasney will make P.O. for copy card, Alex will administer ($20)

12:55   Printers that were (hanging out) in room have been removed.

12:56   Update by Christine McVay on the grad student journal.

            Resolutions taken by SAGSA regarding the creation and regulation of the grad student journal (for questions or to participate on the committee, contact Tekla):

            SAGSA determined that the committee should have two co-editors, and that the decision on position is to be determined by the journal committee and not by SAGSA

            Tekla will be asked to bring up the journal @ the faculty meetings and ask for suggestions and recommendations.

1:12     As per Dr. Sarah Mahler’s request, two students’ profiles should be sent out to SUNTA to give a higher profile to the FIU anthropology students and program.

Jasney, will gather more info and brief us for future reference.
