Mongol Rally Information / history :.

'Ladies and gentlemen, can I please have your attention. I've just been handed an urgent and horrifying news story. I need all of you, to stop what you're doing and listen. Mongol Rally!!'' - Ron Burgundy (2008), who offers his full support......

The Mongol Rally is nearly upon us! Whilst many of you would have heard about 'Gumball', or 'The Cannonball Run', the ethos of our rally is to travel in to the unknown and hopefully come out the other side - intact. All in the name of charity.

To make it easier for ourselves, we are not going to travel in Jeeps, Hummers or Tanks, but two 15 year old 1.0 and 1.3 VW Polos – our babies! Our mission is to push these beasts to the limit around a third of the globe without any back-up or mechanical support. All we are relying on is our individual knowledge of what goes on under the car bonnet, which we believe is where the engine is…..

The Desert Kings (us) will be leaving Hyde Park, London on 19th July 2008 and arriving in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia a few weeks later. We will be trundling through 8 different countries each with there own weird and wonderful language, and crossing some terrain that Sir Ranulph Fiennes would be proud of.

To accomplish this we will be driving for up to 20 hours a day for 3+ weeks, and only then will we think about the 10,000 mile journey home. Any suggestions are welcomed….

If you are reading this and thinking it is verging on insane, then please support us for our charities in the good old fashioned way – by giving money. You can see a banner to our aptly named 'willwemakeit' donation site at the bottom of the page.
